Today I have a new long-form talk with one of my SmartBody SmartMind (SBSM) students and also a good friend, Donnie Hill. He wanted to have a conversation with me about anger, healthy aggression and rage. It was a good review – plus some new stuff, I think – around these topics, so I have popped it onto my channel for you to watch.
As some of you may know, anger is one of the toughest of emotions to unpack as it has many ‘valences’ – meaning, there is a spectrum: from irritation and frustration over completely understandable issues that come up in people’s lives, all the way to uncontrollable rage (or suppressed rage) that can lead to violence and abuse.
Check it out:
Donnie and I have spoken before about his healing journey via my SBSM curriculum, healing something called ‘spasmodic dysphonia’ – a voice disorder he was diagnosed with a while back (and it has healed a great deal!). Watch that old conversation here.
* * *
In case you didn’t know: as Donnie has learned over the years*, integrating SBSM’s curriculum into life prepares people to be able to be present with the intensity of anger, healthy aggression, rage, and even what we call annihilation energy, which is so critical to tap into and express when we have been deeply harmed, misattuned to, and abused.
* And yes folks, I am highlighting the word ‘years’ here because this is a multiple year commitment, not just a few months to ‘see if it works’ and then moving on to the next thing when it doesn’t work immediately – just saying. It is important you understand this. It is like maintaining a healthy body weight, maintaining or building fitness and muscle mass, eating well with consistency or learning a new language with full fluency: it is always happening and at the start it takes more time, stops and starts, frustrations, confusions…but as you get better at it and it becomes second nature, the ‘training wheels’ come off so to speak, and you start getting why I teach so much capacity building and basics at the start. You’ll see 🙂
So when it comes to unlocking anger and deep stored rage we can’t just dive in on the first day.
We need big capacity and acute self-awareness, plus layers of internal safety built over time (years) so we can eventually safely let it out.
For those ready to start this process, begin with SBSM Foundations today.
And for those who already have my curriculums, please do NOT let the “dust” gather on them. Use them!
To your nervous system health (and releasing big energies so we can finally regulate!).
