Without a doubt, one of the main ailments that led to the development of the new traumatology work that we know of today, which forms the basis of my previous private practice work, and then developing my online offerings for personal somatic and interoceptive skill building, would be chronic illness, namely chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia.

This concept of ‘the new traumatology’ stems from Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing (SE) work, and his original thesis that we, as humans, have a tendency to store immense amounts of old survival energy (those fight, flight, and freeze trauma responses), which when “caged” too long can lead to a whole host of illnesses and troubles.

His original client, whom he calls Nancy, came to him with a classic cluster of mysterious body symptoms and syndromes (fatigue, fear, pain) that no one could help back then. But he did!

Today, I have a long form interview for you with one of my SmartBody SmartMind (SBSM) alum, Naomi, who has fully healed chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, and a whole host of other ailments that were a result of an overachiever lifestyle that led to burnout and being housebound.

I wanted to interview her because not too long ago, I got this question via a social media comment: “Is it possible to fully heal from chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia?”

In Naomi’s case the answer was and is, yes!

If you are living with debilitating fatigue, pain, and a nervous system that is fried from doing way too much, let this be a small sign that it is possible to heal and recover, and even thrive.

And, as she shares, this path forward takes time, courage, and commitment.

PS We are officially open for SBSM Foundations, so if you’re curious about what this new 4-week online offering is all about, and how it can help you start building your capacity and nervous system health, head over to learn more <<
