Time and time again, our students tell us that it wasn’t until they started my online curriculums that they FINALLY felt a difference at the core of their nervous system physiology.
Why is this?
Many had been dedicated to mind-body awareness via foundational traditions like Buddhism and mindfulness meditation.
Many more had been working with somatic (often Somatic Experiencing) practitioners for years.
Others were Feldenkrais or bodywork professionals, so were fully diving into the somatic ‘self.’
And we can’t forget about talk therapy… many had done years (some, decades) of talk therapy.
Now don’t get me wrong, all of the above have value and, as they say, a “time and a place,” but in my 25+ years working with humans there is ONE THING that I keep coming back to, which is:
The importance of working with the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
If this concept is new to you, check out this short new video. It breaks down – from a purely physiological perspective – why it is essential to work with the PNS when healing trauma.
What does this actually mean at a personal level?
How does this work “hit” differently, in real life?
Everyone’s experience is unique, but what Nicola shares touches on some common threads:

Moral of the story? It’s not enough to work ONLY with the brain (aka: limbic system, amygdala, etc.). And it’s not enough to work ONLY with the somatic ‘self.’
We need to integrate BOTH, via the peripheral nervous system that connects them!
PS For those who are new here or don’t yet know, SBSM stands for SmartBody SmartMind, which is my 12-week curriculum that teaches you how to rewire and regulate your nervous system via non dumbed-down education, guided self-practice, and professional support.
