“There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand.” 


That’s a quote from Mary Shelley’s book, Frankenstein.

Story 1: Back in 2001 when I was trying to “enjoy” doing scientific research, I was mildly obsessed with the historical facts of this science fiction masterpiece.

I could write an entire essay around what led me to read Frankenstein, but that’s a tale for another day…

If you know my history, I didn’t last very long in academia. 

Truth be told: I couldn’t stand the red tape of it all. Plus, I hate statistics. 

After I finished my degree, fortunately, I turned a corner to the healing arts, neuroplasticity, and mind-body medicine. 

Because of the U-turn I took back then, I now get to witness a level of personal and social change that is tough to describe in one email. 

Story 2: When I first started teaching about the nervous system (circa 2012) a lot of people said things like this:

“Irene, how can we get this work into schools?”
