I teared up at the end of this talk…

NOTE:
This long-form interview is essential for the mom here who’s living with postpartum depression (or anyone who thinks they know someone who is). It’s also for those who are still in their child-bearing years, but are maybe not sure, or even terrified, of navigating pregnancy, the medicalization of birth, the unhealed traumas, or ‘all of the above,’ that could make this natural process (of creating new humans) difficult.

My guest, Kait, wrote a blog post for me back in September 2022 that told a portion of her experience after the birth of her first son.

It was a testament to the healing she experienced via SmartBody SmartMind (SBSM) after being diagnosed with complex PTSD postpartum.

Here’s an excerpt from that post:

“There were no words to explain what I was going through, so I slowly drew away from family and friends. In my journal, I likened this experience to drowning at the bottom of a well in the pitch black, holding an innocent baby over my head. I contemplated suicide, but every time I looked into my son’s eyes, I knew it wasn’t an option.”

And then…

“It’s been about a year and a half since I began this (SBSM) work. I no longer experience chronic pain. My period came back, and my hair stopped falling out. The blurry vision, tinnitus, and body rashes are gone. My house is full of life, and I’ve slowly built a small, supportive community of people around me.”

When Kait wrote this article for me, she wasn’t ready to go on camera to talk about her horrific experience (which is completely understandable: sometimes we need to let an experience settle for a long time before we air it to the public for viewing).

Three years later, we get into the details that led to her becoming diagnosed with PTSD, her search for answers on how to heal, and so much more.

Since then she has given birth to a second son and the experience of this second birth compared to the first, plus how she navigated the pregnancies and the medical system, are like night and day (you can learn about her new “side hustle,” Night and Day Birth, here).

What’s cool? Kait is my second SBSM mama (that I know of at least) who has gone into their second pregnancy with nervous system education, greater somatic capacity, and having healed a lot of their early trauma, and the results are, well, remarkable. 🌟

While I have consciously decided to not have my own biological kids, I take great pride in knowing that healthier babies are coming into this world via the work that I and my team relentlessly do in our online programs.

And as we know via the research, a stressful childhood can lead to serious adverse outcomes later in life.

Which means we could theorize that more regulated births would lead to healthier children, teens, adults, and eventually more regulated parents who then have more healthy babies…

And so the healing of generational trauma and this positive cycle, like the one Kait is living and doing, continues…

To your nervous system health,

Irene & Team Lyon

PS For those interested in this topic, the first time I documented one of these stories was with Erika here.
