Nine years ago I wrote what I believe to be one of the best articles of my life.
Back then, only my Somatic Experiencing colleagues understood I was predicting. (If memory serves, it did offend a fair few…)
Patiently, I’ve been waiting to see if my predications were accurate.
Today, I have a video update for you, sharing my thoughts on why I think this article is more important than ever.
If you’d like a little more context before tapping over to watch this video, my thesis back then was this:
I believed that we would soon see a collapse of the mindfulness (read: mind-body, wellness, alternative, spiritual) “industry.”
And from what I can see today, nine years later, we are well on our way, and if anything, it has been slowly deteriorating since 2016.
The article was inspired after watching the movie, The Big Short, about the financial collapse of 2008. (if you haven’t seen this, I highly recommend it — not only is the cast amazing, the production is next level!).
While this is an ‘apples to oranges’ comparison 一the mindfulness industry with the collapse of the housing market 一 it seems to be an accurate comparison as I talk to top healers, therapists, practitioners, leaders in the field (and some of these are my mentors!), and of course many of you who have reported lackluster results as you try “all the things” in an effort to heal and find true inner freedom.
