The Cambridge online dictionary defines the stiff upper lip as follows:
Someone who has a stiff upper lip does not show their feelings when they are upset. For example: He was taught to keep a stiff upper lip, whatever happens.
In this week’s vlog I talk about emotional repression, and use the concept of the ‘stiff upper lip’ to dig into this insidious form of cultural/societal conditioning.
I also speak to the importance of being human mammals (our animal nature) so that we can express our biological emotions and impulses, but also, the importance of being human and using our higher brain.
